The Italian style of architecture is a remarkable product of the rich, complex, and diverse history and culture of Italy. Originating in ancient Rome, the architecture of this region has evolved through the majestic Renaissance, the opulent and ostentatious Baroque, and

more recently the simplicity and elegance of contemporary revivals of classical styles. Yet, throughout this evolution, Italian architecture has retained a distinct appearance that is easily identifiable when compared with other styles.

Today, Italian architecture typically includes vibrant colors and rich patterns, integrated into well-proportioned, stately structures. Reference to Mediterranean style Italian homes generally connotes an Italian Renaissance residence located along the seacoast. Architectural design elements, such as the campanile and belvedere or even a heavily bracketed cornice, are very distinctly Italian architectural features.
