Mr. A Hays Town, a friend and prominent Southern architect, devoted much of his amazing career to designing fine homes. His exemplary career is an outstanding model for all who are interested in practicing residential architecture. As we sat at his drawing table together and reviewed his latest design for an elegant country home, Mr. Town said that he had received his first architectural fee in 1918 at age fifteen. I remember him telling me about planning the improvements to a hardware store in Lafayette while he was still in high school. Apparently that was the beginning of his very long career. We discussed the many friends he had made during the past seventy-five years practicing architecture.
