The plan of the contemporary country home of Mr. and Mrs. Con G. Demmas features three separate component wings linked together by glass-enclosed hallways. This Poplarville residence, designed by George D. Hopkins,Jr., AlA, of The Hopkins Company, Architects, of New Orleans, is divided into a central living area, a master bedroom suite, and a guest wing with two independent bedroom suites. The living and entertaining area includes a great room with six-inch heart pine floors and a natural finished cypress tongue and groove ceiling, a concealed stairway to a sleeping loft, and a kitchen and breakfast island. Exterior decks offer excellent views of the tennis courts and a series of man-made lakes.
Because the configuration of the three sections of the house is staggered, all living and bedroom areas have panoramic views. "The consistency of the repetitive forms reduce the overall scale and allow each interior space the maxi- mum potential to capture views and admit natural light," state the judges. Rayford C. Burge with Burge Contractors of Carriere rendered Hopkins's design. Extra amenities include an outdoor hot tub, man-made lake, and a three-hundred-acre wooded site.
